The idea I represented was that even random chaos can look like order if displayed in the right format.
I represented the idea by making something that would look totally chaotic by itself, but would look orderly as a radial design. I did this by drawing random shapes that can be connected inside of a 45° slice. I also used very basic geometric shapes, and bright colors.
I learned that sometimes you need to retry over and over again until something looks nice, like with gel pens, and sometimes there is no way to get something right on the first try.
The most challenging moment was when I almost wrecked my paper using the gel pens. If you press too hard you can start ripping into the paper, because the ink is wet. I had to notice ethics, and then wait for the paper to dry so I could try again. I was able to cover up most of this, but some areas you can tell are slightly more “bumpy”.
My greatest strength in this project was that most of it was repetitive, so I could get into a pattern. My biggest area for improvement is being more creative when designing the initial design.
If I ever need to design something with gel pens, I now know how to use them. Such as, how hard to press down, what colors are brightest, how long it takes to dry, etc. Laso, I learned how to use math to make something look symmetrical.
